Each site is unique, and requires application of just the right combination of skills, with a clarity of process. Blending my client's interests with what the site calls for, leads us to work together to accurately identify needs and to weave harmonious design solutions. Thorough knowledge of materials and design and an appetite for spontaneous exploration of combinations, allows us to create gardens which are fresh and imaginative yet durable and authentic.
Each project requires assessment of the site's current uses, history and ecological context and the sensitivity to include qualities of each whether located in our rolling hills or alluvial plains, in forest, beachfront or urban settings. Once sound analysis is in place, judicious application of bold strokes or gentle washes of new ideas, begins to unveil new experiences of the site. The resulting gardens meet my standards of enduring elegance and consonance, their beauty arising out of engagement with that particular place.
What helps this process flow, from first design ideas through final details of construction, is oversight of the entire project, flexibility to make thoughtful adjustments throughout and ongoing communication.
I assemble and work with teams of first rate engineers, architects, surveyors, contractors, arborists, biologists and others.
